Japanese Bloodlines
Prior to including Japanese bloodlines in our breeding stock, we had already become experienced in evaluating koi in terms of their value for sale and in koi shows.

We knew that it would take years to understand the complexities of matching individuals to maximize the benefits of each koi’s strengths for breeding. Mr. Kodama has assisted Ellen with suggestions on how best to improve our blood stock.

We then asked Mr. Kodama to use his lifetime of experience to help us select specially matched breeding pairs of koi in many varieties. The new blood stock was selected for line-breeding. While in Japan, we purchased multiple matched pairs of nearly every variety for our extensive breeding program.

Right: We meet with Mr. Suda. After viewing stunningly beautiful koi in the greenhouses we are presented with a gift while enjoying Mr & Mrs Suda’s hospitality. Here we learn about a fabulous 'foot warmer' that is located under the table in Mr. Suda's office!

Left: We present Mr. & Mrs. Gingero with a gift. They are in temporary housing due to earthquake. We adore his Jinbei Sanke! The Sanke bloodline produce deep lacquer-like sumi in our mud pods, here in Iowa.

Below: Mr. Miyashi’s greenhouses were holding the most amazing breeder koi in numerous varieties. His tosai are quite impressive too! This bloodline is a wonderful addition to our breeding stock.

Right: Mr. Igarashi and his son show us their gorgeous koi. Mr Kodama explains the attributes of the Igarashi bloodline.
